The ascent is made easier by a fibre treatment that stops snow sticking to the skins, and by a membrane that keeps moisture out of the adhesive, so the skins hold firmly in changing conditions throughout the season.

Climbing skins built to last

KOHLA SMU Mixmohair skins are designed for frequent use. The combination of quality mohair and nylon (65 % mohair, 35 % nylon) delivers the optimum balance of excellent glide, grip and long life:

• Mohair glides superbly, which saves a lot of energy on the way up.
• Nylon (a synthetic polymer) makes the skins more durable and glides better than mohair when wet in spring corn.
• The “W” fibre weave is more hard-wearing, glides well and grips well on the climb, including on frozen snow.
• The fibre layer is made from a blend of quality cotton and polyester – increased resistance to tearing and wear.

A firm hold even in spring corn

For a climbing skin to hold reliably on the base, both the base and the adhesive layer must be dry. Once moisture from the snow reaches the adhesive, it stops working, peels off, freezes up and fails to hold. That is why these KOHLA SMU Mixmohair skins use a PU membrane applied between the woven plush layer and the adhesive layer, making the skins 100 % waterproof. You can enjoy your tour without a second thought, because the adhesive holds firmly, does not ice up and works brilliantly even in wet spring corn.

Treated climbing skins

Good climbing skins have to hold firmly on the skis and glide beautifully over the snow. Wet snow can stick to wet skins, and there is nothing more annoying than dragging half a kilo of snow around on each foot. The skins stop gliding and it costs you far too much energy. All KOHLA climbing skins are treated with fluorocarbon, so snow does not stick to them.

As good as new

With frequent use, or after a few seasons, the treatment may become less effective. If that happens, simply refresh it with KOHLA DRY CLIMB skin impregnation spray or KOHLA impregnation wax. The wax is small and worth carrying in your pack on tour, especially on a multi-day traverse.

Will the skins fit my skis?

KOHLA SMU Mixmohair climbing skins can be fitted to any ski – simply swap the steel loop for a different attachment to suit another tip shape. The parts are made from quality plastic and stainless steel, resistant to cold and wear.

• Tip: a fixed T-Bar tip attachment (85 mm) that suits most skis, or the metal (z-Hook) and rubber (i-Fix) hook versions for skis with a notch.
• Tail: a sewn-on elastic plastic strap and clip (K-Clip + Elastic Strap) with 12 cm of adjustment. For twin-tip skis, use the Butterfly clip.

Will the skins match the width and sidecut of my skis?

For the easiest possible climbing, it is important to cover as much of the base as possible with skin. That is why choosing the right width and length matters. KOHLA SMU Mixmohair climbing skins in the Multifit version come in a width of 120 mm and in lengths from 149 to 197 cm in 6 cm increments, and you simply trim them 2.5 mm in from the edge to match the exact shape of your skis.
