Have you ever thought about the appearance of skis? We have. That's why we started designing our own. For the current season, we are preparing a new product – Pa®azit. They are a kind of return to the analog era of the 80s, when each of the world's brands had its own inimitable look. A decade later, this disappeared in a flood of digital graphics. Pa®azit skis are a tribute to legends. Do you recognize any of them?
Interview: With Pa®azity into analog times
The design of Pa®azit skis is by Egoé brand art director David Zezula. According to him, under the influence of computer graphics, moderation and professionalism have disappeared not only in sports equipment…
How many skis have you had in your life? And which one was your favorite?
There weren't that many. First, of course, foxes with strap bindings, then Artis Monzun with Gertsch safety bindings, and then came the Western goods. Elan, Völkl and so on. My favorite was the Elan Swing, because they were the first real skis.
How did you come up with the idea to design the skis? Are there few of them on the market?
I don't have that feeling, quite the opposite. But there are still relatively few skis that I would like. The first Egoé Kontura skis were created as an accessory for the Nestbox car mount, which we launched in the winter. It was only then that we realized that we could design graphics for other skis, also thanks to the willingness of the Lusti company to cooperate.
What influence does computer graphics have on the appearance of skis? Some would say it is just a tool in the hands of the designer, much like a pencil.
The advent of computer graphics in the 1990s significantly influenced graphics, not just for sporting goods. Moderation and expertise disappeared, as anyone could suddenly design. This had an impact on the graphic design of products, and this trend continues to this day.
Parazit is a colorful ski. What do you see in it?
Pa®azit is a tribute to old ski brands and their design solutions from the analog era, before the advent of computers. It is a collage of graphic patterns of various types of now legendary ski brands that became famous in the seventies and eighties. All the beloved designs of the past on one pair of contemporary skis.
